Company Mini Booklet: A Tutorial























These Mini Booklets are a great way to company "freebie" or "marketing item" for your business. Made with household items ( white glue, clamps, and paper) they are easy to make and can be a one of a kind promotional tool....it is also a way to recycle and reuse all those sheets/scraps of paper that you have and hate to throw away. I suggest making them business card size, that way you can you one of your business cards as the cover and all your info is already on it.

a note: if you need the clamps, try your local Hardware store like Home Depot or Lowes and Walmart/Target has them as well in the mechanic section.

Stampin it Up!: Company Stamps

















I just got my company stamps and let me tell you, I have been stamping the hell out of anything I can get my hands on!...I even stamped the bag that held my white chocolate cherry cookies from the bakery. I knew I was out of control when my friend looked at it and gave me "that" look :D.
Company stamps are a good ( and inexpensive) way to brand your items and there is certain ink that allows you to stamp on clear cello and vellum bags cleanly, with out smudging. Its also good if you "forget" or "run out" of company labels, no need to break out the printer late at night, just stamp and be done.

Alot of times I have bought items and received business cards and have been somewhat surprised. Here are these great products and then when it comes to the business card or marketing material, the same thought wasn't put into them. I have seen countless business cards made of that thin office supply store cardstock or the
"pre scored" packaged cardstock with some skewed banner placed on it .


Business cards are important as they display your company brand and are a representation of you . Great business cards will leave an impression on the buyer, making them remember you and your product, which is what you are ultimately aiming for. But, sometimes sellers forget to put as much thought into them as they do their actual products ,which may leave you forgotten by the buyer.

There are a number of different programs that you can use to create business cards (we do not suggest Microsoft Word or Paint) but setting up the layout properly and getting it ready to print can be the most challenging part.
If you are not crafty , your home printer is not "up to par" or just don't know where to start. You can contact one of the many sellers and buy a premade design that you can just add your information to. Or you can buy a "design file" which can then be printed as many times as you want, either at home or you can take to one of the many online business card printing services.
The following are a few, just remember to research , read the fine print and ask around if unsure about feedback from these sites.

{BUSINESS AND MARKETING PRINTING SERVICES}

Moo Cards- Home of the popular "Mini Card", are based out of the UK but with the popularity
increasing in the USA, they have now opened up a USA branch and website. This is good for premades as they have alot of cute designs and you are sure to find something for all types of designers. Also they interface with Etsy, Facebook and Flikr, so if you have pictures of your work on those sites, you can easily upload from them. The downside is that the cards run a little high, (50 for $22 plus shipping). They also sell postcards as well as holiday cards and people tend to have good feedback and positive experiences ordering from them.

Vista Print- One of the more popular online printing services. Reviews for this site have been mixed, some having great experiences with customer service and products and some not. One of the benefits is it is a one stop marketing shop. They produce postcards, greeting card, posters, bags, hats, banners, books and a whole lot more. Also they usually have sales or discounts, so you can wait to buy different sets of materials.

Overnight Prints-Another popular online printing service. Generally positive reviews and they have competitive prices as well. The sell a variety of different sized cards (postcards, rack cards, fliers and etc) as well as magnates and bookmarks. One of the great things about them is that they consistently have great discounts , like now, everything is 20% off. The discounts are splayed across the front page so that you cannot miss them. They also have a variety of printing processes as well as paper and finishes , some of which are free.

123 Print- This site also has mixed reviews, but they do have some products not found at other sites, like the pens and Post-it notes. The Post-It notes are good when you are at craft shows and maybe need to write something down like a product for the buyer to purchase later. You can write them on your own company official 3M Post-It Notes, so that way they can see your company info at the bottom when they look at it.

48 Hour Print- This is an option if you are in a pinch, since like the name indicated, its 48 hour guaranteed printing and processing of your order at no extra charge.Reviews have been mixed as well, but they do produce nice glossy booklets, great for those of you who want a wholesale or holiday catalog.

PS Print- In addition to the standard letterhead items, the do event tickets with the foil stamping as well as the CD jewel cases which are nice if you are sending files or images on cd....you can have your company logo on them.Reviews are also mixed for this site.

My 1 Stop- They really have a small selection of products which includes the business cards. But what they do have are gift cards as well as luggage tags and key tags, so if you were always interested in offering these items, but didn't know where to get them, this is one of the places.

*If you are unsure about quality, printing and etc, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH. You can easily find feedback via google or forums on these companies. Also all of these companies have samples, so if you are still in questions, just request the samples of the product you wish to see.

If you have no idea where to start or just need a card right now as a "filler" we suggest making a simple frame around card in one color. You can either put your info all on one side or put your name on one side and your info on the back. This card uses solid color background but you can just as easily print on any colored paper or just white with the frame and writing being your pop color.Though this is simple it is definitely cleaner and better than random images or a skewed company banner that you have tried to fit onto a small card.

Pie Pops: A Tutorial

Even though this is a paper goods blog, we appreciate all forms of crafty goodnes, so I decided one day to make my own lollipops after being inspired by an episode of "Paula Dean's Homecooking".After trolling the net to get the recipe I came across these little pieces of goodness on a stick courtesy of the genius minds at Luxirare.
Who knew that you could put pie on a stick? AND WHY AM I JUST HEARING ABOUT THIS NOW? I couldn't wait to try these delicious lollipop size pies....

These Pie Pops only require a couple of ingredients.
  • Pie Crust (You can make your own , but I suggest buying premade in grocer freezer)
  • Filling
  • Lollipop Sticks (Your local Cake Supply Store, Michaels or Buy Online)
Now the people at Luxirare made thier own filling from scratch (not that hard, just cornstarch to thicken, sugar and berry of choice). But I am not that crafty when it comes to cooking....now paper is another thing, but cooking no!. I used the pie filling (apple) that you get in the grocery store in the baking isle. They usually have several varieties from the standard Cherry and Apple as well as Blue Berry or Raspberry. The good thing about these pops are that they do not need that much filling (I found out the hard way when I overstuffed the first batch, the apple goodness got me overly excited), so one can of filling can make alot.

The next one that I am going to try is Pumpkin or Sweet Potato...just going to use the can Pumpkin and follow the recipe on the back for Pumpkin Pie Filling.
I think I may even go a little out there and do a savory version, much like an empanada or samosa, but I am getting ahead of myself! Don't forget to try out different shapes when using the cookie cutters. Maybe pumpkin shapes for Halloween or bunny's at Easter.

Hand Canceling:Sending your fancy invite thru USPS

A frequent question that I am asked is " How can I ship this?", (pertaining to invitation or wedding suite they they have purchased). And the answer is " ask to hand cancel at the post office".
Hand canceling means that a postal worker stamps a mark over the postage stamp (so the stamp can't be reused), instead of putting it through a machine to mark it.


{The Origin of Hand Canceling}


Early stamp cancellations were all applied by hand, commonly using hand stamps. Where hand stamps were not available, stamps often were canceled by marking over the stamp with pen, such as writing an "x". Pen cancellations were used in the United States into the 1880s, and in a sense continue to this day, when a postal clerk notices a stamp has escaped cancellation and marks it with a ball point pen or market.
In 1875, Thomas and Martin Leavitt (brothers) patented the first machine in the U.S that canceled postal stamps, of course the machine has undergone some updating and an improved version is the one that is used today.
So now that you have paid for your fancy or bulky invites you want to make sure that they get to there destination in one piece. So when you mail your package just ask the postal worker to "hand cancel" your package and they will stamp it instead of putting it through the machine. This service is free of charge and yes they may grumble about doing more work ( I know my post office does), but just be assertive about it!.
This is really for invitations that are bulky, have extra embellishments, like knotted ribbons, buckles, wax seals or anything that makes the invitation/envelope bulge out...not lay flat. If you have a flat invitation or package then you may want to go ahead and ship thru regular canceling methods.
Just remember that it is no guarantee that your invite will not be put thru the machine or envelope ripped/damaged. As we know, mail changes many hands from the time it leaves yours to the time it gets to its recipient. And though everyone thinks their package is most important, the USPS seeing thousands if not millions of packages a day and they just want to get it processed and might not take the same care that you do when putting it together.....
