The Orange Studio: Helen Dardik Freebie

We are generally not a review blog, but when I came across The Orange Studio, I just had to share.
Helen Dardik , the designer and illustrator behind the Orange Studio creates unique and colorful illustrations...I would say whimsical, but I don't think that it does justice to her style.
According to her bio , after spending several years in Siberia ( of all places) and then later Israel, she began working as a freelance illustrator and later graphic designer.
If her work looks familiar to you, that is because in addition to selling her art at her store The Orange Studio (based out of Canada) she has also done work for Nick Jr Magazine, the Boston Globe, American Girl , Hallmark and several major publishing companies.

In addition to illustrations , she also has paintings, patterns and toys! Of course her prints are less expensive and available at approx $25USD with her paintings going for much larger price at $400. But now in appreciation for her fans, she has made these bookplates with her lovely illustrations available for download( for personal use only) so you can get a little piece of her illustrations in the ongoing recession.

{Helen Dardik BookPlate Freebie}

To use and download, just click on the link below , then clock on the image and it will open up in its own window at a high resolution (300dpi-true size). Then copy that file ( right click, then "save as") to your computer.

Company Mini Booklet: A Tutorial

These Mini Booklets are a great way to company "freebie" or "marketing item" for your business. Made with household items ( white glue, clamps, and paper) they are easy to make and can be a one of a kind promotional tool....it is also a way to recycle and reuse all those sheets/scraps of paper that you have and hate to throw away. I suggest making them business card size, that way you can you one of your business cards as the cover and all your info is already on it.

a note: if you need the clamps, try your local Hardware store like Home Depot or Lowes and Walmart/Target has them as well in the mechanic section.

Download Day: Freebie Swirls

One of the most requested design elements I get request for are swirl patterns and as anyone knows there are hundreds of them. Swirls can take your design from plain to fancy with just a few strategic placements (too many can be overpowering..they really can be).
Most people just usually purchase the whole design or for some of the more craft individuals you can purchase the individual design elements from other designers. You can find a variety of designers & sellers on the web (including ours "Gramkin Paper Studio") or there are other fellow Etsy sellers who sell design motifs.

These swirls and motifs are from designer haiderm3 and are available for download here. Just download and save to your computer.Please note that they are in pdf form and can be used in a variety of programs (Adobe included).

Download Day: Freebie Labels for the DIY gift

I love pretty things on paper, and these labels are no exception. The lovelies at Eat Drink Chic created this DIY homemade bubble bath gift that I thought was so lovely that I had to share.
By using a bubble bath formula by Abigail Beal, they then created labels and packaged it all in a lovely frosted bottle. With a few materials you too can duplicate this gift or make a variation .

{HOMEMADE BUBBLE BATH}

Abigail Beal a.k.a. “the Gift-wrap Goddess” has written a formula for four different bubble bath scents based on a foundation of castille soap, distilled water and liquid glycerin. All of which then have different essential oils for the appropriate aroma.

The homemade bubble bath was then poured into a frosted glass bottle , which can be purchased at Save on Crafts , who sell a variety of sizes and styles (as well as separate cork) or if you are really in a bind and can't find one, you can always buy one from the local liquor store( of course the liquor is still in it). Just pour out ( or down your throat, know one will know, lol) rinse thoroughly and let dry.

{WHAT YOU NEED FOR LABELS}

  • Scissors/Scalpel
  • Double-sided tape
  • Color printer
  • Medium sized glass bottle - (preferably frosted glass with cork)
  • Light brown recycled paper or white textured paper crisp image, textured for vintage feel
  • Bottle Labels -Download Design
    _____________________________________
{INSTRUCTIONS: LABELS}
  • Print out your labels on your color printer.
  • Carefully cut around the edges of your back and front labels with a scissors.
  • Cut out your round seal. I found that cutting carefully around the seal with a scissors was sufficient but if you want to be really precise try using a circle punch of a similar size or an adjustable rotary circle cutter.
  • Cut a thin rectangular strip of paper for the top seal- the dimensions of this depend on your bottle. Experiment and see what looks best.
  • Use double-sided tape to stick your labels and seal in place on bottle.

FREEBIE DAY: SOCIAL MEDIA BADGES

It seems like everyone and there mother has a Twitter, Myspace or Facebook account. Now its even easier to stalk , spy or keep tabs on your person or business of choice.
I usually make my own social media badges, but sometimes I just get lazy and want something quick and nice. So when I happened to come across this Twitter Badge Sites, I couldn't help but share.
The following are two sites that have a big and I mean big selection of badges/buttons made for Twitter, with no download necessary. These are perfect for the person that needs a quick button for their new Twitter account or for someone or business who is not that computer savvy.
{HOW DOES THIS THING WORK?}
It's very simple,Enter your Twitter ID below and Press GO, then you can copy the code (click "Copy Code") of any button you like and past it on your Blog, Web Page or any where and let others follow you.
----------------------------------

There are alot of different styles of badges (above are just a few) from "Follow Me" to "Add Me" and just the plain Twitter Text, so I am sure there will be something that fits into your blog or website. Not sure about which one you want, switch it up every now and then as it is so easy to get code and install.

Feed Your Soul: The Freebie Art Project

With the recession looking as if it is going nowhere soon, justifying spending any extra money on art is hard to do. Enter Feed Your Soul .........................................
Feed Your Soul is a free art project where each month artists are invited to participate and to contribute a print which is totally free and available for download (personal use only).
This project is coordinated by Jen Wallace, the writer of the site Indie Fixx, to help art lovers feed their souls with art in these recessionary times and to help artists promote their work.Each week (usually on Monday) two or more prints are added to the available downloads.
Depending on the quality of printer you have you can download the desired art (in pdf form) and print out on your home printer (frame and hang as picture above). Or , after download, you can save and have sent to printer of your choice, whether local or another an online printer like Imagekind, where you can upload file and print on a variety of choices ( like glossy, traditional canvas, etc) and they even frame as well. This is a good option for those of you who like "one stop" shopping. Just remember that this is for "personal use" and not for profit.

The great thing about Feed Your Soul is that they have a list of artist with their bio and website, so if you would like to see other work and purchase from a particular artist you can. The only downside is that they don't keep archives, so if you see a picture then I suggest you download immediately as you never know when you will get it for free again...if ever.
If you are an artist and would like to submit your work for consideration, just go to the site and send an email with your url or 1-2 images of your work. The artist list is usually booked at least a month in advanced so it may take us them a while to get back to you....be patient.

Download Day:Freebie Holiday Cards

Lately I have been getting alot of request for printables, so I have decided to do a little DIY printable for a A2( 4.25 x 5.5) holiday card. Alot of people do not like the "Happy Holidays" wording, and want a traditional Christmas card , but some people like to encompass the whole Christmas/New Year's Season, so there are both.
I also like non tradional holiday colors so there is an option for those of you who like a little color in your cards.

{INSTRUCTIONS}

  • Download HOLIDAY CARD here.
  • print out card on cardstock of your choice, just make sure that the printer is "letter borderless". It makes it easier and the design will not shift
  • cut in half, there are two light grey small cut lines at the top and bottom at the "halfway" point for easier ref.
  • then fold each card in half ( top to bottom direction) and write whatever message you want inside.
  • Different printers and computers print/view color differently, so we suggest if you want to match the envelope (rather than white) with one of the colors, to print them out first then you can take card to find matching envelope.

ANNOYING LEGAL MUMBO JUMBO:
THIS IS FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY. PLEASE DO NOT MODIFY OR SELL DESIGN, NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE. DO NOT DIRECT LINK TO DOWNLOAD, PLEASE LINK BACK TO POST.THANKS!

Soon we will be saying goodbye....

When we first decided to become a business, I knew where I wanted to go, but sometimes I was just indecisive on how to get there. Over the years Gramkin Paper Studio has undergone a few changes. When the business started to grow, I sat down and really took a look at the products and what I wanted to do.

The first thing that I did was focus our products.  I looked alot over the previous year at what products were selling and where the bulk of my business was coming from. At that point I realized that I had created a little niche for myself  that I then built my business around.

As you have noticed, we have bit by bit, rolled out our new branding. With this comes other changes as well and after careful consideration, we have decided to take a blog "Hiatus".

Why a "Blog Hiatus", well quite simply the world has changed!
When we first started, Facebook and Instagram integration wasn't what it is today...hell Instagram wasn't even invented yet, lol. Because of the way that our customers (and quite frankly society) maneuvers thru eCommerce, we have decided to focus on our social media.

If you haven't visited out Facebook Page (facebook.com/gramkinpaper) or Instagram ( @gramkins) please do! In the next month you will see our presence there increase as we end our time here on the blog.

Now I'm not saying we will not be back on the blog, but as for now we are saying farewell in December. We will still keep the blog  up for anyone who wants to read past articles or download the freebies, but until then, we are not gone yet......

We of course have to leave you with our holiday freebie coming soon!
